Hip Hop Trends to Watch for in 2023

Last year was an amazing one for hip hop, and there are high hopes for even more incredible tracks in 2023. You may have missed some well-kept secrets in 2022, so keep an eye out for what’s coming in the next year. From alternative hip hop to the continued rise of independent artists, hip hop will evolve to a totally new level as it continues to dominate the world of music in 2023. When you hit the Gaslamp nightclubs this year, you’re likely to hear tracks following these trends.

Alternative Hip Hop

Plenty of new alternative hip hop offerings are on the horizon for the next twelve months. One of the top artists to watch is Reverse Mechanic, the Minneapolis rapper/producer who consistently released new content throughout 2022. His biggest hit, “The Culprit,” racked up more than 175,000 YouTube views last year, and with his unique blend of top-notch lyrics and wildly entertaining videos, his star will continue to rise in 2023.

Independent Artists

Quite a few independent artists dominated the hip hop scene in 2022. New York rapper Dylan Owen is one such talent. Owen has a mesmerizing approach to weaving beautifully honest tapestries of the human experience into the heart of every track he creates. His work last year included several new works, including “The Best Ships,” a hit from Take Care of Yourself. Owen is heading into the new year with a fresh single featuring Ceschi Ramos, and he’s looking forward to even bigger and better things in 2023.

Connor Price is another artist you probably heard of in 2022, and after leaving his mark on the Billboard charts last year, he’s situated to continue dropping hits in 2023. Rising to amazing levels in 2022, he released a deluge of head-turning singles, including the wildly successful “Splat.” From LA to Toronto, this independent Canadian rapper/producer is leaving his stamp all over the globe.

R&B/Hip Hop Fusion

Hip hop will continue its tradition of incorporating a variety of musical influences into the genre this year. Some of the freshest blends are being produced by Nur-D, a Minneapolis hip hop artist who had huge success in 2022 with numerous releases, including his album HVN. Nur-D infuses hip hop with soulful R&B grooves to create a truly unique sound. With an expanding fan base and word spreading about his dynamic live performances, he’s positioned to scale new heights in the coming year.
