Today’s Hottest Latin Songs

If you look at the winners of the 2022 Latin Grammy Awards, it’s easy to see musical diversity has become the highlight of this ceremony over the years. Legendary Brazilian composer Caetano Veloso of Brazil received the Record of the Year award, and the equally legendary Ruben Blades of Panama won Album of the Year. Cuban musician Descemer Bueno won Song of the Year, and Colombian singer Juliana Vasquez was crowned Best New Artist. All these awards feature different musical styles that range from tropicalia and salsa to reggaeton and pop. Without a doubt, this great diversity of subgenres account for the growing popularity of Latin music. Here are some of the most popular Latin music hits you’re sure to hear when you hit the dance floor at Onyx Room, the hottest Latin club in San Diego.

“Soy El Unico” – Yahritza y Su Esencia

Yahritza Y Su Esencia, a Mexican American family band, released “Soy El Unico,” their debut single, on March 25th, 2022. This heartbreaking Spanish-language ballad immediately went viral on TikTok and debuted on the Hot 100 at number 20. “Soy El Unico,” a corrido tumbado track, features a blend of American trap music and traditional Mexican corridos.

The trio’s singer, Yahritza Martinez, wrote “Soy El Unico” when she was only 14, and it was the first song she had ever written. At the age of 15, Yahritza became the youngest Latin performer ever to have a song on the chart.

“Hot” – Daddy Yankee & Pitbull

The farewell album by pioneering reggaeton star Daddy Yankee is named Legendaddy, and it’s had several hits on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart since its March 2022 release. “Hot” is a collaboration with Pitbull that Daddy Yankee produced with nightclubs in mind. The irresistible beat is the kind that gets everyone up and out on the floor at the club.

“Forever My Love” – J Balvin & Ed Sheeran

This ballad has received a ton of airplay, and it’s a collaboration no one could have seen coming because these two artists had to step out of their comfort zones to produce it. This isn’t the first time Sheeran has recorded in Spanish, and hearing J Balvin playing acoustic guitar is a pleasant surprise. This song is a clear candidate for a deep house remix later this year.

“Mamiii” – Becky G & Karol G

Even though Becky G’s musical career didn’t veer into reggaeton until now, she holds her own in this collab with Karol G, who is the reigning queen of the genre. This song blazed onto the Billboard charts soon after it was released, and the video featuring these two mesmerizing performers has a lot to do with its success. “Mamiii” is a defiant song that has become an anthem for women who feel empowered after they escape emotionally toxic relationships.
