What to Do with Your Purse in a Nightclub

What to Do with Your Purse in a Nightclub

If you’re like most ladies, you have a few essential items you always need to carry with you no matter where you go. You don’t want to leave home without your driver’s license, phone, credit card, and keys, at the very least. If you’re used to carrying a huge purse everywhere, it can be extremely challenging when you go to bars or clubs because nothing kills a good time like lugging a giant tote around a crowded dance floor. Clutches are easy to lose and difficult to hang onto when you’re dancing, and the smallest ones often aren’t big enough for a typical phone. So what do you do when you’re going out to the best clubs in downtown San Diego and you need to find a safe place to stow your stuff?

Leave It at Coat Check

Many bars and clubs have coat check areas where you can pay a few dollars and have your purse stashed in a secure area where staff members can keep an eye on guests’ belongings. This is a good option if you don’t need your purse during the evening.

Don’t ask if you can leave your purse behind the bar. The bartender will be way too busy to keep an eye on it, and the area behind a busy bar is usually packed and messy, with beer, liqueur, and soda all over the place.

Ask a Friend to Hold It

Another option is to simply ask a friend to hold your purse when you want to hit the dance floor, and return the favor by doing the same for her. If you’re with a group of friends, try a variation of the designated driver concept: put everyone’s stuff in one big purse and take turns holding it throughout the night.

Wear It

Alcohol plus a loud, crowded environment means your stuff may be safer if you have it physically on you all the time. Fortunately, there are a lot of wearable options that won’t get in your way even when you’re showing off your hottest dance moves.

A small crossbody bag is perfect for keeping your essentials right where you need them while leaving your hands free for holding drinks or throwing in the air on the dance floor. Be careful with a crossbody bag, though. Make sure it’s always locked or positioned in front of your body so you always have your eye on it. Some thieves specifically target crossbody bags either by “bumping” into you or having a partner distract you while they reach into your bag.

A clutch bag with a removable strap is also easy to keep up with. The shoulder strap lets you keep your purse with you while you’re dancing, and you can wrap the strap around your wrist so no one can grab it. Some versions even attach to your belt if you don’t want it to get in the way at all. A wrist strap purse is another option. It won’t hold a lot, but it’s a great choice if you only need to keep up with your ID, some cash, and a credit or debit card.

Fanny packs are making a comeback, but they’re not your grandma’s bum bags. Today’s models are sleek, slim, and chic, and with the huge variety of styles available, you won’t have any trouble finding one that coordinates perfectly with whatever you’re wearing. You can wear it high or low on your waist and have the pouch in the front or the back. You can also loop the belt through belt loops, which makes it perfect for a night of clubbing.

There are also a few wearable alternatives that are a bit more discreet. A bra stash pouch attaches to your bra, either between the cups or on the side strap, giving you a safe and secure way to hide your essentials. A garter purse is one you can wear under skirts or dresses. It won’t slip or fall, so it will never get in your way when you go out dancing.

Leave It at Home

Of course, an obvious option is to just leave your purse at home, especially if you’re wearing pants, jeans, or a skirt with pockets. Empty your money, ID, and cards from your usual purse or wallet into a handy card holder you can just throw in one pocket, and put your keys and phone in another. If you’re wearing a dress or pants without pockets, you can tuck your stuff into your bra.
