The World’s Top DJs

San Diego is a city where fans of electronic dance music can enjoy performances by some of the world’s hottest DJs. The lineup of visiting DJs for 2022 includes big names such as Tiesto and Diplo. Plus, EDM artists such as Sofi Tukker and Thievery Corporation are also scheduled to perform this year. Many of the world’s top DJs include San Diego nightclubs on their tour schedules, which means you have a chance to see DJs who are on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 list. David Guetta

In 2020 and 2021, David Guetta was voted the number one DJ in the world. The first time this 54-year-old French EDM artist and producer topped DJ Mag‘s list was in 2011. Since then, he’s been in the top five on five different occasions. One of the most memorable concerts Guetta played in San Diego was in 2014, just a year after he released “When Love Takes Over” with Kelly Rowland. At the time, Billboard magazine described Guetta’s collaboration with Rowland as one of the best EDM tracks in history.

Martin Garrix

Quite a few Dutch DJs are ranked in the Top 100 list. In the case of Martin Garrix, he’s currently one spot below Guetta, but he was voted number one from 2016 to 2018. Even though Garrix is a lot younger than Guetta, he’s considered to be in the same DJ generation as Tiesto and Guetta because he’s been recording since 2013. A year after he released his hit track “Animals,” he was tapped to headline the Ultra South Africa EDM festival—when he was only 17!

Armin van Buuren

Here’s another talented DJ from the Netherlands who has previously dominated the Top 100 list. Armin van Buuren was number one from 2007 to 2010. He didn’t get enough votes to make it into the top five in 2011, but he returned to the top in 2012. The “State of Trance” radio show van Buuren produces has been broadcasting on a weekly basis since 2001. Many DJs think of this show as the best source to stay up to date in the EDM world.

Alok

This Brazilian DJ was born into an EDM family. His parents are legendary psytrance artists and producers, but his favorite style is deep house. Alok has done a lot to promote Brazilian EDM artists through his own record label, particularly those who work in the emerging Brazilian bass subgenre. Alok is also known for injecting classic bossa nova melodies into his deep house compositions.
